The two pages with the really beautiful viking woodcut style Thunderdrum drawings. Sorry for my crappy handwriting; it says SEA CAVES not SEA CAVGS.
But can we talk about the beauty of the paper in this book? The water stains, the creases, the bloodstains on the bottom page, the page edges, this is paper porn (if that’s a thing). If I didn’t know it was from a movie, I’d probably think it was photos of a book!
Hey if you’re really good at word stuff like anagram kinda things message me cos I’m not clever enough to figure out what some of the words in the Book of Dragons could be.
So I’ve always meant to try translating the Book of Dragons, y’know, for easter eggs, like North’s globe in RotG. Right when I started working, I cracked a smile at the dragon name. There’s a few bits that make sense, but a lot is filler. Really simple filler, because it uses the actual futhark (viking) alphabet. In order. Slashes indicate letters that I couldn’t identify by the way.
I haven’t made any progress in my own book of dragons either, but I’m lazy. And I’m also working on River Song’s journal and I want to get that done by the 50th Doctor Who anniversary first.
Inside cover/first page of the project! It reads:
Compiled by Bork the Bold
Revised by Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and Fishlegs Ingerman
Guess what I’m making?
Painting the cover took forever. I got the outside border and half of the knot circle done a few weeks ago, then took a break because the circle is a pain and I just have to have a rhythm to do it, but I finished it and the crest an hour ago. The pages inside are conveniently on thick light yellow paper (which was the only kind of paper big enough) and I’ve sprinkled it with coffee to age it a little more and now my hands smell like coffee…
I’ll be doing all dragons known (at this point) and writing it it in the Riders of Berk alphabet. But this will be a long project
because I can’t draw dragons
I’ll be tagging all of my progress as dm project (for dragon manual) so if you wanna see all of them together or whatever.
shh shh im so sorry i left you for so long
i swear ill get right on posting stuff on here after the trailer blows over a little more and the fandom quiets down
if we ever do
I wish I hadn’t forgotten how to read runes when I learned it in grade school, it would be so cool to translate the Dragon Manual from the movie
my Norwegian Viking pride is is weakening
Well they are all just he English letters in runes so if you look up a chart on google you can translate it
Most of the stuff in the dragon manual that’s little is just there to make it look fuller and is just nonsense, but the dragon names and other pieces the camera really focuses on is translatable.
Hey, so I want to keep this blog more professional, so I’ve made a new, more personal HTTYD blog for myself: norseatheart. From now on only norse-writing stuffs will be on this blog and other junk will be on my more personal blog.
So just finished How to Seize a Dragon’s Jewel. Yeah, definitely dark for kids, especially since when I first heard about the book series I figured it was a ‘fart jokes and an adventure’ preteen boys book, but wow. I only started reading
well technically I listened to the first five on tape but it was David Tennant about two weeks ago and I think I just got my brother to try them (I think it being David Tennant convinced him). But yeah, planning on actually reading the first five for the pictures plus I was multitasking while listening so I didn’t actually understand what was going on at some points.
PS: I’ll get a picture of Camicazi (Holy Thor I love her) I’ve been working on up tomorrow night as a present for everyone since it’s my birthday and stuff so it’s a birthday present because I love you!
